Dubrovnik is a city on the Adriatic Sea coast of Croatia. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations, known as The Pearl of the Adriatic. In the past the city is known as center of culture and science. In the past the city is known as Ragusa.  For 4 centuries it is ruled like a free country – Republica Ragusina. In 15th Century the town is in a competition with Venice and other Italian cities for power and influence. The earthquake in 1667 starts the town’s regression. In the 1699 Republica Ragusina sold two patches of its territory to the Ottomans. This is the beginning of the end. After, it becomes part of France, Austria and Yugoslavia successively. In 1992 the damage, caused by the war, breaking up Yugoslavia, is repaired with the help of UNESCO. The old town is build again, the atmosphere is saved for the tourists.

The city is popular tourist destination. There are many things to see – the St. Blaise church, the Old town and many others.   You can make a long walk along the city walls.The weather is good enough for tourists – Dubrovnik has typical Mediterranean  climate with rainy winter and hot summer.  If you want to visit Dubrovnik, do not miss the Dubrovnik  Summer  festival – cultural event, that lasts 45 days every year . You can see live plays, games and concerts, theatre and dance performances.

The patron of the City is Sveti Vlaho (Saint Blaise). Every year on February 3 the city celebrates his feast.  The celebration last several days.  Everything you can read about Dubrovnik is not enough to feel its atmosphere. The town is full with life and you will never forget its sights and buildings. It is one of the tourist destinations that has to be seen.
