Near to Mezdra town, on the banks of Iskar river over vertical cliffs lies the ancient fortress “Kale“. Populating of this strategic place begins in the Bronze Age. It continue during the Iron Age, the Roman Empire, the Byzantine Empire and the Bulgarian Middle Ages to the present day. Today, the terrain around the area is quite amended by construction of railways and roads around the town. During excavationsin the fortress discovered a lot of Roman coins, pottery and tools. To the present moment continues its exploration from famous archaeologists. Last year was made restoration and the ”Kale” fortress are became in a great tourist attraction.
