Poganovski Monastery “St. John the Evangelist” is an orthodox Holy Monastery. It is located on the left bank of the the Erma River, near the village of Poganovo, today’s Serbia. After the liberation in 1878 Poganovski monastery belonged to the territory of Bulgaria. In November 1920, under the Treaty of Neuilly sur Seine monastery was incorporated into the Kingdom of Serbia. One of the most beautiful bilateral icons of late 14th century originates from this monastery. On the one side of the icon depicts images of the Virgin Mary Katafigi (asylum) and St. John the Evangelist and the other – “Miracle in Latomskiya monastery.” Today this icon and some other jewels, including Screed of Bulgarian rulers are kept in the crypt of the temple-monument “St. Alexander Nevski”
